The Ireland-U.S. Council welcomes the decisions of both the Irish Government and the United States Administration to implement a substantial liberalization of visa rules allowing for U.S. citizens to work in Ireland and for Irish citizens to work in the United States for up to a year.

The Council’s 2008 Student Work Experience Scholarships Awards To Be Presented In New York

Details of the Council’s Student Work Experience Scholarships for 2008 were announced today and will be presented at a luncheon meeting of the organization to be held at The Metropolitan Club in New York City on Thursday, June 12, 2008. Council President Michael J. Gibbons, in releasing details of this year’s scholarship awards, said "The Council’s Scholarship Awards program provides opportunities to student undergraduates from universities in the Republic of Ireland and in Northern Ireland to travel to the United States and to work temporarily in American corporations. These scholarships provide project-oriented, meaningful work assignments in U.S. business corporations of all sizes. The assignments are linked to the fields of study and academic disciplines which the undergraduate scholars are pursuing in Ireland."

Chief Executive of E.S.B. To Address Council’s Spring Luncheon Meeting in Dublin
U.S. Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission Will Also Speak At May 1 Event at Four Seasons Hotel

Padraig McManus, the Chief Executive of Ireland’s Electricity Supply Board (E.S.B.), will occupy the speaker’s platform at a Council luncheon scheduled for Thursday, May 1 at Dublin’s Four Seasons Hotel. The energy company recently announced a €22 billion capital investment plan, fully half of which will be directed at renewable energy sources.

Also appearing at the speaker’s podium at the Council lunch will be Robert J. Faucher, Deputy Chief of Mission at the United States Embassy in Dublin, who will discuss key current issues in the bilateral business relationships between America and Ireland.

Ireland-U.S. Council Schedules Mid-February Winter Meeting Events In Palm Beach
The Ireland-U.S. Council, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing links, especially business connections, between America and the Emerald Isle will again stage its Annual Winter Meeting in Palm Beach during the second week of February. The program of social events will include remarks by several Guest Speakers including the Provost of Trinity College Dublin, Dr. John Hegarty, Ireland’s Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Michael Collins and Ireland’s Minister for Education, Ms. Mary Hanafin, TD.

Council Seeks New Program Of Work Permits for American Citizens in Ireland
The Council has asked the Government in Ireland to introduce a program of work visas for American students, and those in America already working in their career fields, to experience the workplace in Ireland, for a certain limited period of, say, 18 months to two years. Currently, no such visa program exists.

The Council's Award for Outstanding Achievement in 2007 was presented to Philip Lynch, Chairman & CEO of One51 plc, one of Ireland's leading energy and waste infrastructure companies. The award was presented at the Council's 45th Annual Dinner held in November 2007 at The Metropolitan Club in New York.
