Tax Day Lunch in Dublin

Ambassador Foley Addresses Council Lunch in Dublin

US Ambassador Thomas C. Foley

If Ireland's corporate tax deal is the among the sweetest in the world, the Council each year highlights its importance by hosting, on a date as close to April 15 as possible, an American Tax Day Luncheon in Ireland.

This year the event was held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Ballsbridge in Dublin on Friday, April 13. No bad luck was evident as Brian Goggin, Council President in Ireland, led the proceedings. The keynote speaker for the occasion was the U.S. Ambassador in Dublin, His Excellency Thomas C. Foley. Ambassador Foley has been United States Ambassador to Ireland since September, 2006.

Prior to becoming Ambassador, Mr. Foley spent over twenty-five years in business, having worked at McKinsey & Company and Citigroup before founding the NTC Group, a private equity investment firm, in 1985. He holds a B.A. in Economics from Harvard and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

In his remarks, Ambassador Foley highlighted one important aspect of relations between America and Ireland that is set to change - the imminent implementation of an Open Skies agreement between Europe and the United States. The Ambassador noted that the liberalization of transatlantic air travel will be good for travel consumers on both sides of the ocean. It will facilitate, he noted, increased tourism, trade and investment links between Ireland and America.
