2007 Winter Meeting
Palm Beach, Florida

The 2007 Winter Meeting of the Council was held in Palm Beach, Florida from February 14-16. On Valentine's Day - February 14 - there was a major weather event in the Northeast United States with heavy snow & ice that complicated travel for some Council members and speakers.

However, most but not all intending participants did arrive and the Council hosted its traditional opening night cocktail party - this year at The Everglades Club on Worth Avenue. A croquet tournament was held under the lights for Council members and their guests during the evening.

Speakers at this year's meeting were Len O'Hagan, Chairman of the Belfast Harbour Commissioners who addressed the Council dinner gathering at The Sailfish Club at which he updated those in attendance on the current economic and political conditions in Northern Ireland. He also provided details of the Titanic Quarter real estate project - a $1 billion development project being undertaken in the Belfast Harbour area.

Also addressing the Winter Meeting was Kingsley Aikins, Chief Executive of the Ireland Funds Worldwide who updated a Council luncheon gathering on the activities of the American Ireland Fund. The event was held at The Beach Club.

The Council's Winter Meeting in Palm Beach now has an established foothold in the calendar during the second week of February. The 2008 meeting is scheduled to open on the evening of Wednesday February 13 and will close with a dinner on Friday, February 15, 2008.

This year, the schedule included golf at Mayacoo Lakes Country Club and a boat cruise to dinner on the Friday evening.
