Irish Chamber Orchestra Concert & Dinner in New York
|
|
As part of the Council's growing support of the performing arts, this year we hosted
a concert and dinner in New York for the Irish Chamber Orchestra at the start of
its successful inaugural tour of the United States.
The black-tie event was staged at The Metropolitan Club in New York this past April.
The Irish Chamber Orchestra (ICO) has established itself as one of Ireland's leading
cultural ambassadors both at home and abroad. It is widely recognized as one of
the leading chamber orchestras of Europe.
The ICO has toured worldwide, appearing in concert halls in the United States, China,
Australia, and throughout Europe. It has recently signed contracts with two of the
world's leading classical music agencies, enhancing its access to internationally-renowned
concert halls and festivals.
Based at the University of Limerick in the west of Ireland, it has raised $5 million
to build its own home on the Limerick campus, which was officially opened in the
past year. It has established relationships with some of the world's leading artists,
including Nigel Kennedy, Maxim Vengerov and James Galway.
The concert performance featured new works and old masterpieces. A highlight of
the ensemble's concert program was the wonderful concerto for violin and strings
by Felix Mendelssohn.
